The Studies

Most of the children are in school in public schools in the area. Those who have a significant school delay, an educational level too low or who have severe behavioral problems follow their schooling directly in CIMA with teachers at the Center for Alternative Basic Education (CEBA).

All children, who are in school in public schools or CIMA, participate in the leveling classrooms during the week.

These classrooms aim to:

  • ALFABETIZAR CHILDREN who have not attended school
  • MOTIVATE AND DEVELOP THE TASTE BY STUDIES (through alternative educational methods with dynamics and drawings)
  • WORK VALUES (discipline, participation, equality within the group)

To work with children at different school level, leveling teachers develop progressive modules tailored to each other’s school level.

Therapeutics and Occupationals

The Workshops

Farm, carpentry, confections and crafts, fabric painting, music, hydroponics, technical initiation and computing. They develop from Monday to Friday. Children schooled outside study at school in the morning and are leveled in the afternoon, so that only children in SCHOOL in CIMA participate in the workshops.

The workshops aim to:

  • A THERAPEUTIC FUNCTION. Through the workshops you learn discipline and transmit values. In addition, the workshops serve as an occupational therapy, occupying the hands and minds of children so that, in this way, they do not have time to think about bad memories of their life before CIMA.
  • THE ACQUISITION OF A TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE. The workshops give children technical training, which can serve as the basis for future work. Some children have decided to specialize in this field and have got work.
  • THE VALORIZATION OF TALENTS. The workshops offer children the opportunity to develop their manual skills and discover that they have talents.
  • THE GENERATION OF OWN INCOME. The workshops help in the economic part of the institution in several ways:
    • generation of products for domestic consumption (agricultural acvity)
    • generation of products for sale (products from the workshops of cloth painting, clothing and crafts and beekeeping)
    • conducting home maintenance work

Spiritual life plays an important role in the rehabilitation process of children and adolescents.

Although it is not obligatory to be of Christian confession to enter CIMA, daily community prayers are obligatory. They are important moments in the life of the home, strengthening the personal development of children, learning values and strengthening cohesion among them. Mass trips can also be arranged on weekends.

Sport is an activity of greater importance for the personal development of children and adolescents. From Monday to Friday, they have a mandatory hours of sport and football championships are organized on weekends.

  • Sport serves as a therapy as it channels negative energies and allows to detect the attitudes of violence (physical, verbal,… aggression) and then change them.

CIMA also has a library that is well equipped in reference books, literary works, stories and school texts.

  • Leveling teachers as much as CEBA teachers use it every week.
  • In addition there are free reading times during the week at night and on weekends during which children can have fun with board games and borrow books.
  • This activity encourages the taste of reading as a tool for personal development.

In addition, other educational or recreational activities are organized on weekends: informative talks and awareness-raising workshops on health and sexuality, artistic activities, events such as celebration of children’s birthdays, the anniversary of CIMA or the annual gathering of former residents among others.

CIMA has also developed links with partner organizations (schools, student groups, associations) that offer one-off activities to children, and support CIMA with financial or material donations.

Periodically the “Talent Evening” is also organized during which children and adolescents can demonstrate their skills in singing, music, poetry, drawings, dances… This event is very important to strengthen the self-esteem of children and adolescents.

Participation in

Collective Life

Community living means that children participate in fulfilling some tasks for the benefit of all. They are obliged to take care of the cleaning and ordering of their pavilion. In addition, they have to do mandatory hours in the kitchen and on the farm, cultivating the land and raising the animals, activities that serve for the consumption of the home.

  • These tasks are part of the process of learning the values of discipline and life hygiene.
